Whether working from home or in a large commercial office building, the knowledge of how to correctly and safely use a fire extinguisher and when to use it is something everyone should have. How to operate a fire extinguisher should be displayed somewhere in the office for all employees to see. Here are a list of tips and information on when it is time to use a fire extinguisher:

• The extinguisher should be clean and without any damage
• An escape plan has been established and the fire is not blocking the way out of the building
• All others in the building have been alerted
• The local fire department has been called
• Everyone is safe from the smoke and toxins the fire is creating
• The fire is contained to a single object
